Curry County Commissioner Tim Ashley said he plans to run for Clovis mayor. David Lansford announced Thursday he is not seeking a fourth term as mayor. “David (Lansford) has done well,” said Ashley, who owns Clovis Concrete. “But there are some things I would like to strengthen.” The mayor’s seat and four commissioner positions are up for election in March. “I’ve read that job description and it really does not appeal to me,” Commissioner and Mayor Pro Tem Randy Crowder said. City Clerk LeighAnn Melancon said commissioner and mayoral candidates must file on Jan. 8 their intention to run in the municipal election. The position of mayor pays $8,000 a year. Ashley said he would be a good candidate for mayor because he has already served in a “key position” as chairman of the Curry County Commission. “I want to promote a unified effort between the city and county,” he said. City positions up for election in the March 4 municipal elections: Mayor City Commissioner District 1 (Randy Crowder) City Commissioner District 2 (Fred Van Soelen) City Commissioner District 3 (Robert Sandoval) City Commissioner District 4 (Lunell Winton) Crowder, Van Soelen, Sandoval and Winton said they have not decided whether they will seek re-election.
