Clovis sweeps Hereford

Clovis rode the one-two offensive punch of Parker Wood and Jarod Kiser in the opener and a pitcher-by-committee approach in the nightcap Thursday en route to sweeping Hereford in a summer league doubleheader.
Parker slugged a pair of home runs — including a grand slam to end the game in the sixth inning — and drove in six runs, while Kiser added a two-run homer and five RBI as Clovis (11-5-1) took the opener 15-5.
Kiser added a two-run double and an RBI single and finished the game 3-for-5. Wood added a two-run homer in the fifth.
Victor Salazar pitched up the win, allowing four runs and four hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Clovis won the second game 8-4, with winning pitcher Andrew Gilliard, Kiser and Brian Gilliard to limit Hereford to a run in the final four innings.
Brian Gilliard picked up the save.
Shortstop Omar Sosa went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Clovis, and Jordan Jacobs added a two-run triple.
Lady Cats drop pair
Roswell beat Clovis 2-0, 9-8 Thursday in a summer league softball doubleheader.
Adrianna Aguilar went the distance in the opener for the Lady Cats, allowing three hits while striking out two and walking two. Vanessa Gallegos had a double for Clovis (6-7) while Aguilar and Nicole Anaya each went 1-for-2.
In the nightcap, Tresha Lujan went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Clovis. Losing pitcher Elena Wimberly chipped in a three-run double and Charlotte Varney an RBI double.
