Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:
About 4 a.m. Thursday an officer on patrol on Main Street was flagged down by a corrections officer who pointed out an individual hiding near the jail annex. The individual, a male, ran from the officer but stopped at a fence in an alley between Mitchell and Connelly streets. The officer placed him in his patrol car and went back to the alley where he found a 9 mm handgun and magazine loaded with bullets. A check of the system revealed the gun had been stolen in Portales and the individual had two outstanding warrants. He was booked at the Curry County Adult Detention Center for possession of stolen property.
Around 9 a.m. Friday an officer was dispatched to an alley in the 600 block of Townsend for a report of a suspicious person. A man met him in the alley and said he had observed a male standing inside the fence of a school yard behind a tree line. Two city employees working in the alley also told the officer they had seen the same male the day before. Two schools were locked down while the officer searched the area. No one matching the man’s description was found.
About 11 p.m. Friday an officer responded to a home in the 2000 block of Miller Street for a report of criminal damage. The resident said someone had slashed his inflated polar bear ornament and broken two lighted deer ornaments in his yard. He said the week prior someone had rearranged the deer in sexual positions, but he did not know who might have done it. The value of the ornaments was estimated around $130. The case is active.
Around 6 a.m. Sunday an officer responded to a call from the hospital about a battery victim, who said he had gone to a home on Hull Street to pick up his girlfriend when two to three unknown males hit him. His girlfriend told the officer she received an anonymous phone call to pick up her boyfriend at a home on Hull Street. She said when she arrived there were about a dozen males in the yard arguing, and she got her boyfriend in the car and took him to the hospital. Neither gave officers any further information. The case is active.
