House fire breaks out in Portales
Published: Saturday, December 16th, 2006
Units from the Portales Fire Department responded shortly after 9 p.m. Friday to a fire at a house east of Portales.
The home just north of the intersection of N.M. 88 and Roosevelt Road N. was fully engulfed in flames when Roosevelt County Sheriff’s deputies arrived, they reported. Deputies on the scene told Freedom Newspapers there was apparently no one home when the fire broke out. Neighbors reported seeing the flames, according to deputies.
PFD responded with three trucks and was still fighting the blaze at 10 p.m. Most of the home was still standing but damage appeared substantial.
The home’s ownership was still being verified at press time.
