Grady Alpha Extension Club
The Grady Alpha Extension Club met at the Grady Senior Building at 6 p.m. Dec. 11 for its annual Christmas Party.
Members and guests enjoyed a delicious ham/brisket dinner with all the trimmings.
The men and women had separate gift exchanges. Numbers were drawn and then gifts were chosen (or taken from someone who had already chosen). This activity contributed to the merriment of the evening.
Christmas mugs full of candy were given to all present.
Opal Powell was recognized on her 88th birthday.
Attendees were: Jim and Margie Wood, Jerry and Suzy Powell, Opal Powell, James and LaVera Sours, D. H. and Gwen Allen, Lloyd and Maxine Grau, Ferman and Maxine Kelso, Jerry and Carol Nash, Edna Pettigrew, Jo Lynn Queener, Margaret Borden, Bill and Wanda Page, Ronnie and Katy Mackechnie, Gladys Thomas and special guests Joel and Denise Shirley.
The next meeting will be in January, time and place to be announced.
Clovis Quilters
The Clovis Quilters met Dec. 11 at Leal’s Mexican Restaurant with 19 members attending.
Following the meal, Elizabeth Lawrence conducted a brief business meeting. She handed out the first pattern for next year’s Old Maid mystery quilt, which she said should be a lot of fun since each month members are challenged to make two blocks from the same pattern that need to look totally different.
Marilyn Seddon won the 12 blocks of the month that had been presented at each month’s meeting. The members then shared show-and-tell items.
The group had fun with the Chinese gift exchange of the wonderful 12-1/2 Christmas blocks they had made. Amy Armenta made little stockings and Lawrence made cranberry hottycreeks in a jar as party favors for everyone to take home.
At the January meeting of the Llano Estacado Quilt Guild, members will decide if they want to have a quilt show in 2007 in conjunction with Clovis’ 100th anniversary celebrations.

A silent auction was held to benefit Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico. After dinner and coffee, an ornament exchange was held.
The next meeting will be Jan. 8 at Muffley’s Back Door.
