Claud Rainy Day Extension Club
The Claud Rainy Day Extension Club has had a busy fall season. Lola and Aloha Starbuck were hostesses for a “White Elephant” sale, which netted $100 for the Food Bank of the Presbyterian Church. The meal was prepared by Betty Mobley, Joan Ewing, Jean Bristow, Judy Gambill and Nancy Wilking, using the recipes from Connie Moyers’ leader training entitled “No Mess, No Fuss Meals.”
A Thanksgiving meeting was hosted by Gambill and Ewing. Guests were Amy Armenta and Sheryl Abdill.
We mourn the loss of one of our former members, Hazel Burford. A memorial honoring her was given to the Children’s Home in Portales and food was furnished for the family dinner.
The Christmas meeting will be hosted by Joy and Sue Pattison on Dec. 13. Members are to bring a food dish and a gift for exchange.
Curry County Association of Educational Retirees
Curry County Association of Educational Retirees met Dec. 4 at the Holiday Inn for a dinner of pineapple baked ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, rolls, and salad.
President Dick Sullinger called the meeting to order and led pledges to the U.S. and New Mexico flags. Reports were given by Treasurer Barry Steigely and Benevolence Chairman Helen Hunton.
Delman Shirley, legislative representative, discussed developments in educational retirement and retiree health care. He noted that the annual Legislative Workshop to educate members will be held Jan. 9-10, in Santa Fe. He stated the AAL, “Adopt A Legislator” program, has been helpful in keeping members in touch with legislators.
The Membership Committee was complimented on outstanding work during the past year. Anyone interested in helping may contact Sullinger.
Delegates who attended the state convention at Taos reported a helpful and fun meeting. They were Paige Smith, Kay Berry, Billie Johnson and Delman Shirley.
A joyful program of Christmas music was presented by the Yucca Junior High Choir under the direction of Virginia Morrison. The young people gave an outstanding performance.
Officers for 2007 were installed by Shirley. They are: president, Mary Kilmer; vicepresident, Linda Milburn; secretary, Pam Sury; and treasurer, Barry Steigely.
All retired educators are urged to attend the Jan. 8 meeting when area legislators will talk about the upcoming legislative session.

Plains Regional Medical Center Auxiliary
Plains Regional Medical Center Auxiliary held its annual Fall Luncheon Nov. 28, at Baxter/Curran Senior Center, attended by 48 auxilians.
The prayer was lead by Jody Skeen. Phyllis Davidson, president, welcomed the auxilians and visitors.
She thanked the auxilians for their volunteer work and contribution to the hospital and the community.
Ramona Parker, president-elect, gave a report on the nominating committee, and announced the officers the committee nominated for the following year.
They are Ramona Parker, president; Ruby Goforth, president-elect; Jeannie Eichenberger, secretary, Vivian Lake, treasurer, and Dell Gunnells, member-at-large. Entertainment was provided by the Tribute Trio.
Door prizes were won by Jeannie Eichenberger, Paige Smith and Sondra Neal.
The next meeting will be in January when the new officers are to be installed.
