Today’s focus: “Ms. C” Household members: 6 Children: 5 Special circumstances: “Ms. C” has three children of her own. She recently lost her mother and has taken in two more children who were being raised by her mother. Ms. C has been laid off from work because she is under a doctor’s care for possible liver and lung problems. She gets no help from the parents of the children she is now raising because the parents are in jail. Her holiday hopes: She loves her children and wants their first Christmas without their grandmother to be wonderful. Clothing needs: Boys shirt sizes 5 to 6 (for two boys) and 4 to 5. Boys pants sizes 5 slim (for two boys) and 4 slim. Boys shoe sizes 10 (for two boys) and 9 1/2. Girls shirt six 3T. Girls pants size 3T. Girls shoe size 6 1/2. Toys list: Spiderman, Superman and Batman toys and a Dora the Explorer doll. The Empty Stocking Fund is a joint effort of the Salvation Army and the Clovis News Journal and Portales News-Tribune. Recipients receive gifts and clothes for their children and baskets of food with green beans, stuffing, mashed potatoes and a meat voucher from a local grocery store. Larger families will receive donated turkeys instead of the voucher. The food baskets will also go to seniors on fixed incomes. Who’s helped: Around 500 families who’ve asked the Salvation Army to help make Christmas special. Donations: Can be dropped off at the CNJ, 521 Pile St., or mailed to the CNJ, P.O. Box 1689, Clovis, NM 88101. Envelopes should be clearly marked “Empty Stocking Fund.” Contributions will be forwarded to the Salvation Army office, 317 E. Second St., or gifts may be purchased for specific children by choosing an Angel tag off trees located at North Plains Mall and Wal-Mart in Clovis. If you would like to help “Ms. C,” call Capt.
