I am a lifelong, third-generation resident of Clovis and Curry County. I have been married to Peggy Kelley for eight years. Peggy is also a lifelong resident of Curry County. We have a little boy, Logan, who is 3 years old. We are proud members of the First Baptist Church in Clovis. We are very proud to call Clovis and Curry County home. Our roots are here in Curry County and we have no plans to leave. I have more than nine years of continuous law enforcement service to this community. I have a family history of law enforcement, as my grandfather gave over 20 years of continuous law-enforcement service to this community. I have served with the Curry County Sheriff’s Office for the last 6 1/2 years; the last 3 1/2, I have served as your under sheriff. I have had the opportunity to serve as acting sheriff numerous times during my term as under sheriff, most recently October through December of last year while our current sheriff attended the FBI academy. I also had the opportunity to serve as Interim jail administrator during that time. It is no secret that the drug and gang problem in our community is on the rise. The Sheriff’s Office currently teaches drug and gang awareness in all of the elementary schools in Curry County. I not only plan to continue these programs, but I plan to expand them and reach a wide range of our children. Our children are precious to me. They are our future and I feel that education and prevention is paramount in molding their futures. We have some very serious issues facing our communities and I am aware of these issues. I am the only candidate with continuous, recent experience in the Curry County Sheriff’s Office. I am aware of our drug and gang problem. I am familiar with the ever-changing sex offender registration laws. I know our manpower issues within the Sheriff’s Office and I feel we are on the right track to start working to alleviate these problems. It will not happen over night. I have been working as a law enforcement officer in this community, continuously, for the last nine years. I am the only candidate who can say this. I am not going to tell you the things you want to hear. I will tell you how things are. I will not make shallow promises that I know I cannot keep. With that, I would appreciate the opportunity to serve as your sheriff. I will not quit you and I will be available whenever needed, whatever the circumstance. I have the experience, commitment, dedication and integrity you deserve from a sheriff. Thank you for your time and consideration. I would appreciate your vote on June 6.
