The Joint Veterans Council of Curry and Roosevelt counties will place approximately 2,300 American flags on veterans’ graves this weekend. But each year, council volunteers miss veterans’ graves because there is nothing to indicate veteran status. All veteran organizations have bronze markers that can be purchased to mark veterans’ graves. VFW Post 9515 in Portales will place about 200 flags at the local cemetery on Saturday.
