Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports: At 8:30 a.m. May 16, an officer called to Clovis High took a report about students making and detonating an explosive device. A teacher told the officer he was away from his class when he heard an explosion and returned to see students standing around looking stunned with paper falling. Two students were suspended. There were no injuries or property damage. The case has been forwarded to the district attorney’s office for review. • • • In a report filed May 17 about a fire that occurred around 9 p.m. May 8 in the 400 block of Georgia Street, an officer stated police went to the 500 block of Hall to check on a man who was bleeding. The man told officials, “I didn’t light my house on fire! I didn’t do no pyro!” when they learned he was the resident of the home on fire. He said he was hurt jumping over fences to get away from the fire. The fire is under investigation. • • • About 8:20 p.m. May 17, officers called to a home in the 1600 block of Jonquil Park for battery on a household member were told by the resident that one of his foster children hit another. The child told police he can’t control himself when he gets mad, and the child was removed from the home and arrested for battery on a household member. The Children Youth and Families Division was called. • • • Around 3 p.m. May 17, an officer sent to the 900 block of Ross Street to assist a woman whose head was bleeding. She went to the hospital emergency room and told police someone she knew had struck her. The officer advised her how to file charges at municipal court.
