CCC graduating 110 on Friday Clovis Community College will hold its 20th commencement ceremony starting at 6 p.m. on Friday in Marshall Auditorium. There will be 110 graduates from summer and fall 2005 and spring 2006. David Pacheco, vice president for administration, is master of ceremonies. Becky Rowley, interim president, will welcome the graduates and the audience, then Becky Carruthers, dean of educational services, will present the graduates. Student speakers will be Felicia Cantwell and Denise Jones. Degrees to be conferred include Associate of Arts, Associate of General Studies, Associate of Science and Associate of Applied Science. Certificate of Completion recipients will also be recognized. Melrose senior earns honor Melrose High School senior Casey Estes has received the 2006 Presidential Scholar Award. Casey is the son of Marvis and Cathy Estes of Melrose. Estes will travel to Washington, D.C., as part of the award, according to his principal, Jamie Widner. He is one of three students in New Mexico who have received the scholar award, according to the New Mexico Public Education Department. Estes is also a National Merit scholarship winner, his principal said. Texico seniors earn community award Texico seniors Stephanie Bailey and Lori Richardson will be presented with Sam Walton Community Scholarships by local Wal-Mart officials today at Texico High School. They were chosen by the national Wal-Mart Foundation for their academic performance and involvement in the community, according to Clovis Wal-Mart Manager Paul Schmidl. La Casita teacher earns honors La Casita Elementary School teacher Amelia Cabrera has been named Teacher of the Year by Wal-Mart. A $1,000 award will be presented to La Casita on May 18 as a result, Schmidl said. Cabrera was nominated by her colleagues for the award.
