A Clovis resident died and his wife was seriously injured Thursday in a three-vehicle accident northwest of Austin, Texas.
Joe Jones, 69, died at the scene, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. June Despain, 72, and Jesse Lee Despain, 75, both of Marble Falls, Texas, also died at the scene, DPS said.
Jones’ wife, Lois, was taken to a Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, where she was listed Friday as being in intensive care, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
The accident happened at 4:32 p.m. (CST) on U.S. 281, about 15 miles north of Johnson City, Texas.
DPS officials said Lois Jones, 69, was driving south when the couple’s 1999 Ford pickup crossed the center line and struck the left rear corner of a 2005 dump truck traveling north.
The Ford collided head-on with the 1996 Ford pickup that June Despain was driving in the northbound lanes, according to DPS.
