Phyllis Byrd Kilmer, 94, of Clovis, died Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Laurel Ridge Healthcare. She was born Dec. 30, 1911, in Mangum, Okla., to Amanda Rosa Jane and Cleophus Lee Bird. She was the youngest of nine children. She graduated from Vaughn High School in 1930. She married Arlin William Kilmer March 5, 1932, in Roswell. She was a homemaker before attending Eastern New Mexico University, where she earned a teaching degree. She taught at Clovis Municipal Schools and earned a master’s degree in special education. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and all of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by two sons, Harold Kilmer (and wife, Cicely), and Gerald Kilmer (Starlett); five grandchildren, Michael Kilmer, Vicki Hudson (David), Skip Johnson, John Kilmer and Gerald Kilmer II; six great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are John, Gerald II and Michael Kilmer, Vicki Hudson and Skip Johnson, Herbert Bergstrom will officiate services. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home.
