Grady Alpha Club Grady Alpha Club met March 7 at the Clovis home of Maxine Kelso. Katy Mackechnie presided over the business meeting. The roll call was answered by nine members, and one guest offering Irish blessings. Discussion centered around plans for the Grady Memorial Day dinner on Sunday, May 28, which coincides with the 100th anniversary of the town of Grady and the Grady Methodist Church. The Grady Club hosted 15 Fairfield Club members for lunch, and all enjoyed the St. Patrick’s Day theme and the menu of “green” food. Margaret Borden led singing of Irish songs, and Irish word games were played. Door prizes were won by Martha Watkins, Josie Apley and Murl Dennington of Fairfield, and Donna Erb of Grady. Green beaded necklaces were given to everyone present. Members and guests were encouraged to participate in the Cultural Arts Exhibition from noon to 6 p.m. April 4 at the North Annex of the Clovis-Carver Public Library. Clovis Pilot Club Pilot Club of Clovis held its monthly business meeting at Velma’s Bar-B-Q Restaurant. After calling the meeting to order, president-elect Carlene McLain announced that Janet Barnhart was running for district treasurer at the upcoming district convention in April in Farmington. Club officers elected for 2006-2007 were Carlene McLain, president; Darlene Rose, president-elect; Molly Stansell, secretary; Janet Barnhart, treasurer, and Susie Hatley, fund-raiser chairperson. Club members were reminded about the Lighthouse Mission workday on March 15. Four members have signed up to attend the district convention April 28-30 in Farmington. Two club members will attend the Pilot International convention in July in Atlanta. Darlene Rose announced that there are 207 lifelines in the Clovis area and to call her for information on getting a lifeline. Next meeting is March 27 at the Back Door. The upcoming semi-annual 2006 garage sale will be announced in the CNJ. El Portal Chapter The El Portal Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met at 10 a.m. March 11 at the home of Neva Steele in Clovis. Regent Wanda Dunn presided over the business meeting with nine members attending. The president general’s message, National Defense Report, Constitutional Minute, Indian Minute and Flag Facts were all presented. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was given. Linda Baldock and Jessie Strauch have been appointed delegates to the state conference with Vicky Stratton as alternate. The conference is March 29 to April 1 in Las Cruces. The next meeting will be April 8 at the home of Linda Baldock. The chapter’s 75th anniversary will be celebrated with a tea. The Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. presented a flag program giving the history of all the U.S. flags starting with those used during the Revolutionary War.
