Dykes Air Force Airman Billy R. Dykes has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. A 2003 Clovis High School graduate, Dykes is the son of Billy and Rose Dykes of Clovis. Ferran Navy Seaman Apprentice Megan Ferran, sister of Rebecca Cottone of Clovis and granddaughter of Flora Norris of Espanola, made a five-day port visit to Brisbane, Australia, while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, homeported in San Diego. Sailors volunteered at the local children’s and women’s hospitals, helped restore an Australian World War II frigate at the Queensland Maritime Museum and cleaned a training facility for emergency medical technicians. A 2002 graduate of Moriarty High School, Ferran joined the Navy in June 2004. Jones Air Force Airman Patrick D. Jones has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base. A 2004 graduate of Clovis High School, Jones is the son of Melody Jones of Clovis. Lower Army Staff Sgt. James H. Lower has returned to the Southern European Task Force (Airborne) at Caserma Ederle, Vicenza, Italy, after being deployed to Afghanistan. In Afghanistan, he served as a member of Combined Joint Task Force-76, an interagency, multinational organization whose objectives included humanitarian assistance, establishing security, defeating Al-Qaida and Taliban forces, and deterring the re-emergence of terrorism. An operations sergeant, Lower is the son of Gary D. Lower of Bluewater, and grandson of Rosemarie Lower of Logan. His wife, Melissa, is the daughter of Brenda Lowe of Bellville, Ohio. He is a 1998 Logan High School graduate. Martinez Navy Seaman Recruit Lewis Martinez Jr., son of Vivian B. and Lewis Martinez of Tucumcari, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Martinez is a 2001 graduate of Tucumcari High School.
