Peggy Whomans, 81, died Thursday, March 9, 2006, at her residence in Portales. Born July 11, 1924, in Salisbury, N.C., she was the daughter of Louise and Max Moorefield. She grew up in North Carolina and attended Catawaba College in Salisbury, then moved to New York City and taught dance at the Arthur Murray Studio for many years. She moved back to Salisbury and opened a private dance studio that she operated for 20 years. In 1968, she retired and moved to Alamagordo. Family members said she enjoyed art and crafts, traveling, camping and especially spending time in Timberon. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Dorothy McLean. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Max and Diane Pastor, and two grandchildren, Anthony James Pastor and Ryane Anderson Pastor, all of Portales. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
