Published: Friday, June 9th, 2006
A fire started by lightning Friday burned approximately 4,500 acres of grassland about 16 miles east west of Floyd, according to Floyd Fire Chief Leland Terry.
Terry reported no injuries or structure damage from the fire, which started about 2:30 p.m.
“With the hot and dry conditions and the lightning, this has been almost a daily thing,” Terry said.
Nine fire departments assisted Floyd with the fire.
