Refugio Vasquez Services: Have been held. Refugio “Rufus” Vasquez, 60, of Chase, Kan., died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at his home in Chase. He was born on May 14, 1944, in Clovis, to Refugio and Candida Gallegos Vasquez. He had been a resident of Chase since 1979 and formerly of Garden City, Kan., and Clovis. He was a block-press operator for North American Salt in Lyons, Kan., for 18 years. He was also a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church of Lyons. On Oct. 26, 1963, he married Judy Sandoval in Clovis. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tony Vasquez; three sisters, Guadalupe Sandoval, Lucy Vasquez and Mary Dotson; a son, Lawrence Vasquez; a daughter, Julie Vasquez; a daughter-in-law, Susan Vasquez; a granddaughter, Anita Nakano; and a great-grandson, Gary Rosales. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Frank Vasquez of Great Bend, Kan., and Paul Vasquez of Chase; two daughters, Sarah Trevino of Bushton, Kan., and Rosa Vasquez of Chase; five brothers, Joe Vasquez of Gallup, Leo and Richard Vasquez, bothof Clovis, Danny Vasquez of Riverside, Calif., and Carlos Vasquez of Fort Worth, Texas; three sisters, Carla Muniz of Farwell, Theresa Garcia of Liberal, Kan., and Sarah Rosner of Melrose; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Father Juan Garza will officiate the services. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Chase with full military honors provided by Fort Riley. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons. Memorial contributions may be sent to Rufus Vasquez Memorial Fund at Sillin Funeral Home. Arrangements are by Sillin Funeral Home of Lyons.
