Anna Fay Lee Services: Have been held. Mrs. Anna Fay Lee, 88, of Elida, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales. She was born on Oct. 4, 1916, in Tahoka, Texas, to Fay and Clayton Standefer. She was the oldest of eight children born to the Standefer family. She grew up near Morton, Texas. On Dec. 22, 1934, she married Cotton Lee. They moved several times before moving to Fort Sumner in 1947. In 1970 they moved to Roswell where they made their home until 1981. At that time they moved to Elida. She worked for several years as a senior companion. She joined the First Baptist Church in Clovis in 1946. Family members said she enjoyed the Elida Senior Citizens and the Elida Homemaker’s Club and liked doing yard work and traveling. During her lifetime she had traveled by conveyances ranging from covered wagons, buggies and horseback to cars and trains, planes and even helicopter. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bud Standefer; a sister, Evelyn Ellis; a grandson, John Hughson; and her husband, Joel W. “Cotton” Lee. Survivors include two daughters, JoNell Pohl of Columbus, Ohio, and Kay Nuckols (and husband, Jim Bob) of Elida; two grandchildren, Lee Ann Wright of Aransas Pass, Texas and Joel Nuckols of Lovington; a great-grandson, Joel Trevor Nuckols of Levelland, Texas; two brothers, Joe Bob Standefer of Floyd and Jay Standefer of Roswell; and three sisters, Betty Lou Moore of Elida, Billie Jo Radcliff of Portales and Jimmie Starr of Las Vegas, Nev. Kay Nuckols and Connie Dixon will officiate the services. Pallbearers are Jimmy Dale Ward, Dan Howard, Coy Wilson, Tim Bob Wilson, Trevor Nuckols, Jeff Bilberry and Wendell Cathy. Honorary pallbearers are The Elida Fire and Ambulance Department. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Elida Fire and Ambulance Department. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
