El Portal Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution Members of the El Portal Chapter of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution met at K-Bob’s Steak House at 6 p.m. Dec. 9, for their annual formal Christmas dinner. After the opening rituals, the business meeting was adjourned for dinner and visiting with background Christmas music provided. “The Candy Cane Story” and “Guess the Christmas Songs” were the entertainment activities. Members brought an assortment of toys, games and activities to be sent to Iraq, to be distributed to children there. Attendees were Vicky Stratton, Michael and Nena Stratton, Harris and Wanda Dunn, Joe and Joyeline Costen, Jerry and Carol Nash, Harry and Mona Pomeroy, Sandra Hays, Nancy Bowden, Fred and Jessie Strauch, Gary and Bernice Baker, Neva Steele, Bimbo Steele, Everett Steele and Judy McDaniel, Cori Snobble, and Wenonah Hunton. The next meeting will be Jan. 13, 2007, at the home of Vicky Stratton in Portales. The program will be about “Women’s Issues.” Chaparral Extension Club June Phillips invited the Chaparral Extension Club to her beautifully decorated home on Dec. 7 for a special Christmas party. There were 15 members who attended and enjoyed the refreshments she served. The group had fun with the Chinese gift exchange. Dec. 14 the club met at Leal’s Mexican Restaurant for its regular meeting with 17 members and one guest attending. They signed Christmas cards to be sent to 12 past members. Following a meal, Council President Amy Armenta conducted an installation of officers for next year: President Sheryl Abdill, Vice President Jeanetta Mesner, Secretary Linda Roberts and Treasurer Betty Jackson. The group then toured the Hope Center where they followed up a monetary donation with food items. The tour was informative about this worthwhile addition to Clovis. Information: Sheryl Abdill, 763-4256 or 799-1917. B.P.O. Does B.P.O. Does No. 108 held a regular meeting on Dec. 14 with President Gaylynn Essary presiding. Roll call of officers and the minutes from the last meeting were read. Essary presented the Doe of the Year 2006 plaque to Jean Hayes and Kristi Bennett, past president for the year 2005. Membership Chairperson Bea Martell read the new application for membership. President Essary then called for yearend annual committee reports, given to Secretary Chris Daves. She then reminded everyone of installation practice at 7 p.m. Dec. 28 and Jan. 4. Installation of B.P.O. Does 2007 Officers will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 6 at the Clovis Elks Lodge. All officers will need to be there at 6 p.m. for pictures.
