Published: Sunday, October 19th, 2003
Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports: Police received two calls shortly before midnight Tuesday regarding drive-by shootings According to a man at the 2100 block of Ross Street, two vehicles were driving south when the man heard a sound that may have been a shotgun discharge. Two people walking in the parking lot of a nearby business fled on foot after the sound. Inspection of the scene revealed no evidence of any damage. A second man called police to report he had been involved in a crash at the 1800 block of West Grand after a man shot at him from a vehicle. Police found a number of bullets in a nearby residence, none of which penetrated the outer wall of the house. Neither the driver nor household members reported injuries.
After a domestic battery incident in the parking lot of a Clovis store about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, police stopped a car on the corner of 21st Street and Martin Luther King Blvd. with occupants matching the description called in to police by witnesses who had seen the couple fighting in the parking lot.
The male driver admitted to hitting the female passenger and police noticed bloody lips, dried blood on her nose, and the early stages of swelling on her lips. Police arrested the man on charges of battery on a household member.
About 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, police received a call regarding a washer and dryer stolen out of a mobile home on the 800 block of Siesta Lane. The resident said she was in the process of moving out and had found the washer and dryer missing that morning. A broken window in the home had only recently been repaired and the resident said she suspected that had been the point of entry.
The washer and dryer had been rented from a “rent-to-own” business in Clovis and not been fully paid. Police found a note on the outside of the mobile home signed “neighborhood burglar.”
