Martina G. Lucero, 73, of Fort Sumner, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
She was born on Sept. 15, 1930, in Fort Sumner, to Merejildo and Francesquita Aragon Garcia.
She attended school at Fort Sumner. She worked for many years in the restaurant business as a waitress and a cook. She later owned and operated restaurants in Fort Sumner. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles; a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Family members said she enjoyed playing bingo, lotto and visiting the casinos.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Merejildo Garcia Jr. and Mariano Garcia; two sisters, Carmen Salguero and Nicolasa Garcia.
Survivors include five sons, Nick Lucero, Agapito Lucero (and wife Margaret), Ruben Lucero, Simon Lucero (Tammy), all of Fort Sumner and Gabe Lucero (Sis) of Grand Junction, Colo.; two daughters, Mary Felipa Lucero of Fort Sumner and Teresa Marshall (Keith) of Las Cruces; a brother, Rumaldo Garcia (Jo) of Hereford, Texas; a sister, Beatrice Pena of Lubbock; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Cremation has taken place.
Father Sotero A. Sena will officiate the services.
Burial will be at St. Anthony Cemetery in Fort Sumner.
Arrangements are by Chavez Funeral Home of Fort Sumner.
