FLOYD — J’Kobie Lee drove in Brett Martin with a one-out single to center in the bottom of the ninth, lifting Floyd past Melrose 6-5 in a District 7-1A/2A baseball game Thursday.
The Broncos (11-9, 6-2 district) finished second behind Texico in district play and will travel for a regional game next week.
Chet Chenault was the winning pitcher, striking out 10 in relief of Chay Chenault, who had nine strikeouts.
Lane Draper went the distance for the Buffaloes (3-8, 2-6), striking out 10. Cory Allen went 2-for-3 for Melrose, scoring twice and hitting a two-run single in the Buffs’ four-run fifth.
Texico 5, Dora 3: At Dora, the visiting Wolverines scored four unearned runs in the top of the seventh — three with two out — to overhaul the Coyotes and complete an unbeaten run through District 7-1A/2A.
With the Coyotes leading 3-1, Texico got a one-out baserunner on an error in the seventh and T.J. Serna followed with an RBI single. After a strikeout, Conner Doolittle, winning pitcher Brett Anderson and Seth Bailey singled home runs to put the Wolverines (14-3-1, 8-0 district) in front.
Dora, which finished 3-5 in the district, scored all its runs in the fifth on a Texico error.
Bailey hit a solo homer in the fourth, his 12th of the season, for the game’s first run.
Sophomore Lathan Lieb went the distance for Dora, allowing eight hits and striking out seven.
