The Clovis Christian Lady Eagles came up a little short Thursday night.
CCS opened a 9-2 lead early, but couldn’t hold on down the stretch and dropped a 35-31 decisiion to the Clovis High junior varsity at the CCS gym.
The teams have split a pair of games this season, and will meet one more time — Jan. 27. All three games are at CCS.
Lady Eagles coach Max Kralicek said with senior guard Lauren Douma sidelined with a knee injury, depth has been an issue.
“We miss not having Lauren,” Kralicek said. “It’s just a matter of time until we get her back.”
It’s also a heavy part of the schedule. CCS (8-5) is in the midst of playing seven games in a 10-day stretch.
Clovis JV (8-5) carried a two-point lead into the final quarter and outscored CCS 15-13 to finish off the win.
Only three players scored for the Lady Eagles, led by junior Jocelyn Swann with 13 points and senior Jennifer Schaap with 10.
“It was a seesaw battle until the fourth quarter,” Kralicek said. “We turned the ball over several times and gave them some easy baskets.”
Kayla Ware led all scorers with 16 points for the Lady Wildcats JV.
“We kind of started out slow,” Clovis JV coach Miguel Ramirez said. “We finally had to come out and play our game.”
