What: 6-Man Football State Championship

Who: San Jon (4-5) vs. Hondo Valley (8-2)

Where: Hondo

When: 6 p.m. Friday

This will be the Coyotes’ second state championship appearance in three years. They finished 2006 as the state runnerup.

The Eagles have beaten the Coyotes twice in the regular season, 52-6 (Sept. 19) and 43-22 (Sept. 26).

Despite the two previous victories the Eagles are approaching this game with a serious mindset, said Eagles head coach Brandon Devine.

It is obvious that San Jon has turned the corner by beating Lake Arthur to advance to the championship, Devine said.

“They cannot be taken lightly, what happen earlier in this season does not matter,” Devine said.

The Coyotes were missing some players due to injuries when they played against the Eagles, players that are now healthy and ready to go, said Coyotes head coach Waymond Ragland.

“This tam played with a lot of heart and excitement to get to the championship,” Ragland said. “The guys are not concerned with who we are playing. They are excited about the fact that we have made it to the championship.

“The team has worked very hard to get back into the chase,” Ragland said. “We are just going to go out there and play some good football.”
