ABILENE, Texas — Lubbock Estacado connected on six 3-pointers Friday afternoon and handed the Clovis High girls a 61-47 setback in a Polk-Key City Tournament game consolation bracket played at Hardin-Simmons University. Despite the setback, CHS girls coach Miles Watters said the Lady Wildcats (1-2) improved their play over a Thursday loss to Abilene Wylie. “We played much better tonight,” Watters said. “We did some good things. We got within four points a couple of times (in the second half), but we just made too many turnovers.” The Lady Matadors opened a 16-8 lead after one quarter. Clovis then played Estacado relatively even over the next two stanzas before losing the final period 14-6. Sophomore Antiesha Brown scored a game-high 18 points for the Lady Cats. Junior Brittany Johnson was next in line with nine points. Clovis is scheduled to play again in a 12:30 p.m. (MST) clash today against an opponent to be determined.
