The New Mexico Activities Association has released seedings for the Class 3A football championships, and Portales is feeling underappreciated. “We don’t understand what the thinking is,” Portales coach Andy Correll said after the Rams received a No. 10 seed. The game sets Portales up for a game at Socorro this weekend, with the winner facing No. 2 seed Raton the following week. “I don’t know anything about them,” Correll said of the Warriors. “We’ve traded films, so we’ll have to see how we match up with them. “All we’ve got to do is lineup and play.” Portales finished 3-7, but Correll felt a tough pre-district schedule, and the team’s 2-1 record in District 4-3A should have had some impact. “I think it’s all record (with seeding decisions),” Correll said. “I think every bit of it has to be records, just based on how they placed the teams in order.” District 4-3A champ Lovington is seeded first, with second and third seeds going to Hot Springs and Bloomfield, respectively.
