Good morning a welcome to the Freedom New Mexico Friday briefing.
Certified
Curry County’s Chief Deputy Clerk Beni Dampier has earned her certificate as a New Mexico Certified Public Supervisor.
Dampier says the program is a lengthy series of classes and study to help her be a better public servant as well as improve her leadership and communication skills.
She has worked for the county more than 20 years.
Happy 100th
To help celebrate New Mexico’s centennial, Clovis MainStreet is sponsoring a series of special events at the Clovis Depot Model Train Museum, 221 W. 1st St.
The first presentation — the role of the railroad in advances of time keeping and communications — is 10 a.m. Feb. 11.
Kitchen tip
To soften butter but not melt it, try cutting it into squares and put them into a bowl. Insert bowl in a pan of warm, not hot, water for a few minutes.
It’s a fact
Your brain requires 20 percent of the oxygen and calories your body needs — even though your brain only makes up two percent of your total body weight.
Today in history
On this day in 1959, rising American rock stars Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson are killed when their chartered Beechcraft Bonanza plane crashes in Iowa a few minutes after takeoff from Mason City on a flight headed for Moorehead, Minn.
Holly and his band, the Crickets, had just scored a No. 1 hit with "That'll Be the Day."
