Gracy G. Capps, 85, of Pocahontas, Iowa, died Saturday, June 3, 2006, at Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas.
He was born May 22, 1920, in Cuervo to Lloyd and Sarah Williams Capps. He was raised in House. He served in the 6th Armored Division in World War II and was a prisoner of war in Germany. He attended the University of New Mexico where he played football and basketball, and later completed his education at Eastern New Mexico University. He was a longtime coach and teacher at Clovis High School, Goddard High School in Roswell and the Hondo schools. He coached all sports, but had a special love of golf, which he coached until his retirement, family members said.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Katherine Capps; and sister, Irene Cole.
Survivors include his second wife, Marless Capps of Pocahontas; a son, Neil E. Capps of Roswell; two sisters, Earline Cummerford of Springer and Fannie Dansby of Roswell; and a brother, Robert Capps of Roswell.
Frank Sherman will officiate.
Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home.
