James McCary, 58, of Portales died Monday, June 5, 2006, at his residence. He was born Aug. 15, 1947, to Elma and Walter McCary in Wichita, Kan., where he grew up and attended school. He attended welding school and following graduation, began working in construction. He retired in 2002. Family members said he enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time in the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his son, Mikel McCary of Topeka, Kan.; mother, Elma Palmer of Portales; and sister, Elizabeth Cunningham of Portales.
