William Edward Hill, 84, of Jal, Texas, and formerly of Portales, died Friday, May 26, 2006, in Winkler Memorial Hospital in Kermit, Texas. He was born Jan. 28, 1922, in Bowie County, Texas, to Charlie and Effie Hill. He moved from Portales to Jal in 1949. He was a member of the Jal Volunteer Fire Department and the First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; Charlie and Effie Hill; wife, Lena Mae Hill; mother-in-law, Mae Denny; three brothers, Charley Hill, Melbin Sim Hill and Hardy Hill; and a sister, Mary Peterson. Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Hill of Kermit, Texas, and Eddie Hill of Jal; a daughter, Joy Hill of Jal; a sister, Ruth Gibbs of Clovis; two brothers, A.C. Hill and Uncle Pug Hill, both of Portales; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements were by Calvery Funeral Home in Eunice.
