Carolla Smith, 93, of Farwell died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at the Farwell Convalescent Center. Born June 28, 1912, in Childress, Texas, to Harvey and Mollie Summers, she was a longtime resident of Farwell. She married Albert H. “Blackie” Smith on Jan. 1, 1936, in Texico. She helped her husband on the family farm for many years. She cooked at Retirement Ranch and Golden Age Nursing Home. She loved to quilt, and she was a loving wife and mother who supported her children’s activities, according to family and friends. She was a member of Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Farwell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers; four sisters; and a grandson, Timothy Wayne Smith. She is survived by three sons, Eddie Smith (and wife, Jeanie), Arlin Smith and Maurice Smith, all of Farwell; three grandchildren, Steven Smith of Elfria, Ariz., Sheila Smith Jennings of Farwell and Justin Smith of El Paso, Texas; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gary Johnson will officiate services. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home.
