Chavez, Florence “Lencha”

Florence “Lencha” Chavez, 86, of Clovis died Friday, April 28, 2006, at her home. Born Jan. 31, 1920, to Jose D. and Delfinia Marez Zamora in Yeso, she married Alfonso Chavez on Jan. 9, 1946, in Fort Sumner. She was a homemaker, mother and grandmother, and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, the VFW 3015 Ladies Auxiliary, the VFW 3015 AH 05 Cooties and American Legion Post 25 Ladies Auxiliary. Her hobbies were bingo, crocheting and quilting, family members said. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Jody Archibeque and Orlando Chavez; one daughter, Rebecca Hinojosa; five brothers, Benito, Sosteno, Pancho, Johnny and Junior Zamora, and one sister, Josie Gauna. She is survived by her husband, of Clovis; a daughter, Mae Mondragon (and husband, Jeo) of Clovis; two sisters, Julia Enriquez (Ubaldo), and Lupe Samora and companion Marcelino Gonzales, all of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren. A rosary will be said at Our Lady of Guadalupe at 7 p.m. today. Father Sotero Sena will officiate. Burial will follow services at Mission Garden of Memories. Pallbearers will be Florene “Peanut” Michaels, Patsy Garcia, Roberta Cordova, Gigi Gallardo, Theresa Beltran and Anna Cardonita. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home.
