Choir students from Marshall and Yucca Middle Schools received ratings of superior and excellent on Saturday at the Southeastern New Mexico Music Educators solo and ensemble contest.

Twenty-six student soloists from Marshall competed in the festival. Twenty of those received a superior rating and six received an excellent rating.

Marshall student Jose Alvarado was named outstanding soloist.

Two Marshall ensembles competed in the contest. Both ensembles received superior ratings. One ensemble was named outstanding ensemble.

Members of the outstanding ensemble are: Jose Alvarado, TJ Richardson, Drew Taylor, Colby Coiner, Christian Fox and Joshua McLaurin.

Thirty-five Yucca soloists competed in the contest. Thirty-two of those received a superior rating and three received an excellent rating.

 Yucca students Catherine Hisel and Lauren Martin were named outstanding soloist.

Three Yucca ensembles competed in the contest. All three ensembles received a superior rating.

One Yucca ensemble was named outstanding ensemble. Members of the ensemble are Lauren Giles, Sadie Odom, Rilee Green and Catherine Hisel.
