Jamahl Brown, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Jr., G, Washington, D.C. — Brown scored 42 points last week as the Javelinas split a pair of games, including a career-high 24 in a loss at Texas A&M-Commerce, to raise his season’s average from 9.4 to 10.6 ppg. He went 17-of-27 from the floor, including 5-of-10 from 3-point range.
Defense
Jon Cathey-Macklin, Tarleton State, Jr., F, Milwaukee — Cathey-Macklin recorded 10 blocked shots in two games, including a career-best seven in the Texans’ wn over Incarnate Word. He also had 13 rebounds, including 10 on the defensive end.
Women
Offense (co-players)
Peyton Adamson, Tarleton State, Jr., G, Rockwall, Texas — Adamson scored 55 points in two games last week, both wins, hitting 14-of-26 shots overall and 13-of-18 from 3-pont range. She also hit all 14 of her free throw attempts, going 10-for-10 to set a school record for percentage in a game with a minimum of 10 attempts.
Mackenzie Lankford, Abilene Christian, Jr., G, Weatherford, Texas — Lankford, last week’s POW on offense, scored 49 points in road wins over Midwestern State and Cameron that vaulted the Wildcats back into first place in the LSC. She shot 10-of-16 overall (5-of-9 from 3-point range) for 33 points at MSU.
ENMU nominee
Tara Johnson, Sr., G, Portales — Scored 19 points to lead the Zias to an 80-70 overtime win at Texas Woman’s that boosted the Zias into the No. 8 spot ahead of the Pioneers in the battle for an LSC tournament berth. She shot 6-of-11 from the floor (2-of-4 on 3s) and 5-of-6 from the line, scoring five points to help the Zias dominate the OT 16-6.
Defense
Lauren Holt, Angelo State, Jr., F, Christoval, Texas — Holt had her seventh and eighth double-doubles of the season to help the Rambelles win both games, collecting 16 points and 10 rebounds at Midwestern State and 16 and 12 at Cameron. She made 13-of-21 field goal tries and also grabbed 22 rebounds.
ENMU nominee
Nelsha Peterson, Fr., F, Palestine, Texas — Grabbed nine rebounds (eight defensive), helping ENMU hold TWU to just four second-chance points.
