Last meeting: The Wildcats overcame a two-point halftime deficit last Tuesday and pulled away to a 73-59 win over the Cavemen at Rock Staubus Gym.
OF note: Hobbs avenged a district-opening 69-66 loss at Carlsbad on Feb. 9, racing to a 22-3 lead after the first quarter and holding the Cavemen’s leading scorer, 5-foot-11 senior G Marcus Arrington, to eight points, about seven under his average. … The Cats will clinch the regular-season district title with a win. They would be two games up on Hobbs with only Friday’s rematch at The Rock remaining.

Last time out: The Lady Wildcats cruised past Class 4A No. 2 Roswell High 55-27 on Friday at home. The Cavegirls lost at home on Friday to Hobbs 39-30.
Last meeting: Leading just 27-20 at halftime, the Lady Cats went on a 31-0 blitz that carried into the final period in a 65-29 win over the Cavegirls.
Of note: Carlsbad led Hobbs 5-4 after one quarter on Friday, but was outscored 14-2 in the second stanza and never got back into contention. … The loss was the fourth in a row for the Cavegirls. … Sophomore Zuriah Leyva led Carlsbad against Hobbs with 14 points, including 11 in the third quarter, while junior Shalie McAlister finished with 10. … No matter what happens tonight, the Lady Cats will need a win at Hobbs on Friday to win the district title outright.
